November Goals Recap & December Goals!

Hi guys! Can you believe it's already December...where did the year go?! Well it's time to recap my November Goals so let's see how I did!

1. Massage JBCO mixed with grapeseed oil into my scalp every 1-2 days. Done!

2.  Successfully remove my braid install. Done!

3. Do an egg protein treatment. Didn't do, but I'm actually planning on doing one today so it'll be a December goal!

4. Complete my Jillian Michael's 30 day shred program. This was by far my hardest goal, but I did it!!!

5. Lose 5 lbs. I'm not quite sure where I stand with this seeing as though Thanksgiving just passed and I REALLY enjoyed myself, but what I do know is that I'm back on track and excited to get back to my healthy lifestyle!

Overall I managed to successfully achieve 3/5 goals and I am super proud of myself for doing so! Now onto my December goals:

DECEMBER GOALS:
  1. Do an egg protein treatment
  2. Exercise at least 5 days a week leading up to Christmas. (I want to be in tip top shape for my trip home!).
  3. Try the Inversion Method for a week. After reading tons of information on this I've decided to give it a try. I'm interested to see what my results will be!
  4. Finish my Christmas shopping by December 14th. I'm about halfway there!
  5. Apply JBCO to my edges daily. They are a bit sparse from my braid install, but I'm determined to help them make a full comeback!
  6. Use up at least 1 hair product!

Bed, Bath, & Beyond's Health and Beauty Section!!!

So I am so excited to share what I discovered today in Bed Bath and Beyond today!!! Lately when reading some of my favorite beauty blogs I keep seeing people mention that they've spotted some of the latest and greatest makeup items in Bed Bath and Beyond. Who would've thought! Well I happened to be near one today and out of curiosity decided to check out the health and beauty section. Y'all I was blown away! Not only does Bed, Bath, and Beyond have a great makeup section, but they have a HUGE Hair product section! AND to make it EVEN better they also have their own generic brand called Harmon Face Value of some of the top product such as Paul Mitchell's 'The Detangler' and Matrix Biolage's 'Detangling Solution'. To top all of this off if you are signed up to receive Bed Bath and Beyond's coupons like I am we are talking about HUGE savings here! I also noticed that the prices seem to be better than Walmart or Target. Oh and did I mention that Bed Bath and Beyond accepts any competitors coupons! I was so mesmerized that I had to take a few pictures!

$2 Off of Essie Nail Polishes At Walgreens!

As of lately Walgreens has become one of my favorite stores for beauty items besides Target and of course my beloved Sally's! The reason why is because of the coupons! I recently discovered (thanks to the lovely sales attendant) that at the beauty check out counter there is normally a stash of coupons sent to them by the retailers for a certain amount of your purchases! On yesterday my honey and I stopped in Walgreens after church because he needed to pick up something so of course I used this as an excuse to roam through the hair and beauty isles and decided to stop and look at all of the Essie nail polishes. Honestly, I had no intention of purchasing them because I find them to be rather pricey, but while I was browsing the sales attendant came over and told me that she had Essie coupons for $2 off! Well I am my mother's child which means that savings, sales, and deals make my day so I selected two lovely colors (Play Date, which is pictured below and Chinchilly) for just $12. I would've paid $16 if it hadn't been for those coupons! So since I was blessed in savings I just had to share it with you all because let's face it...most ladies love a cute nail polish! I have no idea how long these coupons last so just make sure to check out at the beauty counter (the register that is normally accross from the beauty isle) and if the sales attendant doesn't mention it make sure you ask if they have any coupons!

My Goals for 2013!

Ok so I figured if I wanted to do this post I'd better have it out before January's over! I actually made a list of my goals both hair related and non-hair related back in December and just never got around to actually posting them, but hey better late then never right?

Since healthy hair is a serious passion of mine let's start off with that.
  • Reach APL by August 2013
  • Maintain My Healthy Ends
  • Continue being consistent with my hair regimen
  • Use up some of the products in my arsenal before I go purchase any more
  • NO SETBACKS
My Fitness and Health Goals:
  • Get back to tracking (I'm a weight watchers girl!)
  • Tone my arms, stomach, and thighs
  • Consistently work out 4-5 days a week
  • Lose my holiday weight (actively working on that now!)
My Cleaning/Organization Goals:
  • Clean my bedroom dresser off
  • Go through my summer clothes and give away pieces to goodwill
My 2013 Wishlist:
  • Shower Caddy. I'm tired of having shower items sitting around my tub!
  • 5 Hair Archetypes book by Ms. Kibibi
  • Pebco Hair Dryer
  • Resident Evil for my Wii
This about sums up my goals for 2013. What goals have you set for the new year?

How I Pack My Hair Essentials for any Vacation!

One of the things that I absolutely hate is packing! Not necessarily the idea of packing, but the fact that I can't pack everything, but the kitchen sink and take it with me! You never truly realize how many things you use on a daily basis until it's time to go somewhere! Packing the right hair essentials is one of the first things that I do when it comes to packing. Check out my video to see exactly what I pack and how I prepare it for travel!

Mineral Oil: The Black Hair Industry's Evil Sidekick

So yesterday I stopped by my local beauty supply store on the way home. I was looking for a thicker moisturizer for the winter months, but I also just wanted to look around because well I'm hair obsessed and it's just what I do! As I roamed from isle to isle picking up moisturizers that peaked my interest for the most part they all had one thing in common. MINERAL OIL! *insert scream here* What really bothered me about this was that the products that I picked up were from some of the top lines that supposedly cater to African American Hair (Optimum Care, Motions, Creme of Nature, etc) yet mineral oil was one of the top three ingredients. As I looked at each product and shook my head in frustration I couldn't help but think that it's no wonder I had trouble retaining length for years. Before I learned about healthy hair care practices I was one naive gal. I was that customer that always bought a product based on the promises written on the front and the pictures of the gorgeous black women with healthy shiny hair and actually expected it to work and yet I would always end up disappointed. If only I'd known then that so many of those products that are marketed towards African American women don't necessarily contain ingredients that are good for our hair. Now I'm not saying that products that contain mineral oil can't work for some, but I know for me personally they do NOTHING for my hair. Ultimately the point of this whole babble is to point out why mineral oil is not the best ingredient choice for hair products, in particularly moisturizers. Here are some fun facts about mineral oil:

    • Mineral oil is derived from crude oil
    • It coats the hair shaft instead of penetrating it, which allows the hair to appear shiny and moisturized
    • Eventually the hair will dry out potentially causing more breakage and damage.

I am so glad that so many hair care lines are starting to eliminate this ingredient from their products and that more importantly I've learned to read the ingredients list on any product before it touches my hair!
