Is It Always Worth it To Use Up Products?

As some of you already know one of my goals for the month of January is to use up products in my product stash that my hair and I aren't the biggest fans of. Lately, I've been thinking though, is it really worth it to try and use up a product if your hair HATES it? Am I saying that every product that produces an 'eh' reaction from my hair should be tossed...absolutely NOT! I'm talking about those products that no matter how many oils you add to them, no matter how much heat, no matter how much you try and mix it with something else your hair still hates it! I've come to the conclusion that those products (especially if I didn't pay that much for them) will either be donated to someone else who's hair may love them or will be tossed in the garbage. I love my hair too much to compromise it's health just to use up a product. At the same time I've had lovely results just by adding a few oils to other products to make them tolerable enough where I can finish using them. So what do you guys think? Is it always worth it to try and use up a product regardless of what your hair thinks?

  1. I'm working on clearing out some products too. And I think there are some products I'll try out once or twice before completely giving up on it (and throwing it out). But if it's not good, I'm not going to force it into my regimen.

    1. That's exactly the point I'm at now. I was talking to a few friends the other day and I think we may have a hair product swapping party to get rid of some products and try others!

  2. I agree with Kim. Try it twice, maybe the third time you can doctor it up. After that---If it's a shampoo, I use it to wash my hair care tools. If it's a conditioner, I just ditch or donate.

    Great post chica!

  3. I don't try to use up products if they aren't working; I give them away. They might work well on a different head of hair.

  4. I agree with fancyflairlady, KLP and Ghanian Emprezz. If it is still not working after 2 tries, donate it or toss it out. I'm happy to see that I'm not the only one who is trying to use up their stash. By March this year, I hope to be left with just the staples.

    1. That's my plan too! Of course there are a few products that I am eyeing...the never ending cycle of a product junkie! lol

  5. I agree with the above comments, too. If my hair seems to hate something, it's just not worth the risk to me to try to use it up. I try to give it away before finally just throwing it out.

  6. I agree courtnea! Why put your hair at a disadvantage for a product's sake?!

    1. Exactly! I've already gifted a coworker with a conditioner that just wasn't working for my hair!
