Revamped Wash Day Routine

As I mentioned previously in my relaxer update video I have revamped and simplified my normal wash day routine and so far I am in love with the changes! Here's my new simplified routine. Please note that some products that I am using are being used in an attempt to use them up as apart of my Hair Product No Buy Challenge.

  • I parted my hair into 4 sections and applied my Tropical Isle Red Pimento Oil to my scalp and a random mixture of oils to the length of my hair from root to tip.
  • I then sat under my Gold N Hot conditioning cap for 5-10 minutes.
  • Afterwards I gently detangled each of the 4 sections of my hair (I find that this works better for me than detangling in the shower when my hair is wet) using my shower comb followed by my rake comb.
  • Next I sprayed each section of my hair with my CC's Marshmallow & Burdock Hair Tea (review coming soon!) and applied my staple deep conditioner and sat under my conditioning cap for another 15-20 minutes.
  • After I rinsed out the conditioner I applied my hair one to each section, let it sit for a few minutes and rinsed.
  • Once I was completely done rinsing I wrapped my hair in my turbie twist and left it on for about 40 minutes to soak up the excess water.
  • Lastly I applied my normal leave ins (my kimmaytube leave-in Mix with a twist and the GVP Paul Mitchell Skinny) and sat under my bonnet dryer for about 40 minutes on a cool setting.
I was left with incredibly soft fluffy moisturized hair. Overall I'm extremely pleased with the changes I've made to my wash day regimen. It's so simple and gets the job done. What more can a girl ask for!

Relaxer Update!

So I got my relaxer one week ago and overall I loved my results minus the crown breakage that I experienced. I definitely retained a great deal of length so I will keep doing what I've been doing, however there are some things that I am going to change to get my crown area back in tip top shape. I've totally revamped my wash day process to help minimize any breakage that I will experience. In the past I would detangle in the shower and I truly believe that is a big part of why I experienced crown breakage. I will definitely do a separate post on my new and improved wash day process so stay tuned. Check out the video below on my relaxer update!

Hair Product No Buy Challenge!

Well after letting my old product junkie ways get the best of me lately I've decided to challenge myself to a 2-3 month no buy challenge! The main goals that I hope to achieve while pariticipating in this challenge is to save a little money (which I graciously plan to put towards my spring shopping!) and to use up some of the products that are in my stash. Now don't get me wrong my product stash and product junkie ways have come a long way, but I can do better. I'm excited to see just how many products I can use up during my no buy challenge! Also, to make sure I am 'armed' and ready for the challenge I recently purchased a brand new jar of both my staple moisturizing and protein deep conditioners. I'm actually excited to see how this goes and may even do an update post at the end of the challenge. We shall see...feel free to join me!

Detangling for Relaxer Day

On Friday I faced the dreaded task of detangling my hair in preperations for my relaxer. I normally don't dread this process, but I had sooooo much new growth you could just get lost in it y'all! Also, as of lately my hair was super thirsty...like sahara desert dry thirsty. Add all of that up and what I had was a dry matted mess. I knew that detangling was going to be a very long process if I wanted to keep any hair on my head! Here's what my hair looked like before I got started...

I parted my hair into two halves pinning one half up while I delt with the other. Then starting at the very back I parted my hair into very small sections. I then spritzed the new growth in that section with my silken childs detangler. Next I coated the section with coconut oil and followed up with my giovanni direct leave in. After applying the products I slowly detangled the section from tip to root.

I loved the results and I know my hair stylists thanked her lucky stars that I detangled the thickness that had taken over my head so everybody won in this situation!

L4LPSC Check In!

Well it's time for the second check in...boy oh boy is time passing fast! I haven't been struggling in the least with protecting my hair because it's been cold and windy here on the east coast. Overall I've been doing good with protective styling although I've definitely lacked creativity, but I'm getting the job done :)

Cowash Thursday!

This is a really quick post! I know I've been super quiet lately...blame it on working night shift and trying to readjust to my normal day to day schedule! Anywho in between work I've been on a serious workout regimen lately, which means long days in the gym and sweaty hair (gross I know). Because of that I've vowed to cowash my hair at least once a week in addition to my weekend wash day. On today I hopped in the shower and rinsed my hair thoroughly for about 1-2 minutes with warm water and then applied my hair one. I massaged it into my hair for about 30 seconds and rinsed. I then applied my GVP conditioning balm to my hair from root to tip and put on my new deep conditioning cap.
I let my conditioner sit for about 10 minutes and then hopped back in the shower and rinsed it out (this reminded me of why I deep condition first on my wash day!). Lastly I applied my normal leave ins and tied a silk scarf around my edges to slick them down and air dried! I was left with very soft manageable hair.
