Thanksgiving Day Hair!

First of all I want to take the time to wish everyone a Happy Belated Thanksgiving! I pray that each and every one of you enjoyed the time that you spent with your family and were able to reflect on all of God's blessings!

On Wednesday I decided to cowash my hair because quite frankly I was over the flat relaxer hair feeling and wanted my hair to have more body!
  1. Spritzed my hair with a mixture of aloe vera juice and water and applied my Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner to the length of my hair.
  2. Sat Under my heating cap for about 25 minutes
  3. Rinsed and applied my Hair One Cleansing Conditioner to my scalp for about 2 minutes
  4. Rinsed and wrapped my hair in my turbie twist for about 20 minutes
  5. Applied my leave ins (Chi Keratin Mist, Kimmaytube Leave in, Macademia Healing Oil *Newbie Alert*) and sat under my hooded dryer for about 30 minutes.
  6. Moisturized with my beloved Giovanni Direct Leave in and sealed my hair with coconut oil and my ends with my JBCO.
On Thanksgiving Day I decided to do a Caruso Steam Pin Curl set. What is that you ask? Well to put it simply I used my Caruso Steam rollers to curl my hair and then pin curled my hair to allow the curls to set.

So far I'm absolutely loving this newly discovered way to curl my hair. The best part is I can either take the curls down and lightly finger comb or leave them in overnight! This is a great alternative to the normal way of pin curling for those who struggle with it like me!

Here's a picture of my Thanksgiving Day Outfit.

I'm a huge Black Friday shopper so in order to prepare for the cold weather I put my satin bonnet and cute black winter cap on my head. My curls lasted all day. I'm in love!

Cowash Wednesdays!

On Saturday I had a fabulous wash day, but of course due to my workout schedule and this temperamental fall weather we've been having on the east coast it was time to cowash my hair! Not to mention I will be heading to the salon for my relaxer on Saturday (Yay!) so I always try to get in one last wash in order to soften and detangle my new growth. After taking down my lovely 4 day old Goddess Braids protective style here's what I did:

  • Finger detangled to remove any shed hairs
  • Deep conditioned with Trader Joe's Nourishing Spa conditioner on the length of my hair and Tropical Isle Red Pimento Oil on my scalp for about 35 minutes.
  • Rinsed and applied hair one to my scalp and the length of my hair. I let it sit for about 2 minutes.
  • Rinsed and applied a bit of my Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Daily Treatment.
  • Applied my leave ins (Kimmaytube leave in, Chi Keratin Mist for a shot of protein, and about a dime sized amount of the GVP Smoothing Serum
  • Sat under my dryer for about 25 minutes
  • Detangled again to remove any remaining shed hairs
  • Moisturized with my beloved Giovanni Direct Leave In and Sealed with coconut oil on the length of my hair and JBCO on my ends.

My face showing that I am so over these 12 weeks of new growth!

Style: I styled my hair in a Faux bun using the Kanekalon braid hair from my goddess braids.  I'm really loving these temporary protective styles as of lately!

Totally Twisted (Part 4) | How To Safely Remove A Braid Install

Here's part 4 of my Braid series! In this video I give tips (hopefully helpful) as well as demonstrate how I safely remove my braid install. I will also have a pictorial of sorts coming soon showing how I removed my Senegalese twists as well!

Wash Day!

After reading tons and tons of wash day posts while rocking my Senegalese twists I finally am back to doing my own wash day posts! Don't worry though I do have a video and pictorial of sorts showing how I removed my Senegalese twists.

So after the long process of removing my braid install (the next day) I began my wash day process which went rather well if I do say so myself.

  • Detangled (FOREVER) using my Up and Up Spray Detangler from Target and a bit of coconut oil making sure to remove as much shed air as possible. Of course the amount hair was much more because of my 8 week braid install.
  • Prepooed with a mix of my GVP Moisturizing Conditioner, coconut oil, and JBCO under my heating cap for about 20 minutes.
  • Shampooed with my beloved Shea Moisture Moisture Retention Shampoo
  • Deep Conditioned with my Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner (Newbie Alert!), which I sealed in with a mixture of grapeseed oil and EVOO. I sat under my heating cap for about 30 minutes.
  • Applied my leave ins which were a bit of my Kimmaytube Leave in Mix and GVP smoothing serum.
  • Dried my hair using my salon dryer for about 1 hour on a medium cool setting.
  • Finger detangled to remove any remaining shed hairs.
  • Moisturized and sealed using my Giovanni Direct Leave in, coconut oil, and JBCO for my ends.
Left: Hair lost post wash. Right: Hair lost prewash.
After finally finishing I looked at my 11 weeks post hair and tried to figure out what I was going to do with it for the week until I visit my stylist next Saturday! My hair felt so soft, but honey my roots were on another level! After a bit of thinking I remembered the pack of braid hair I'd purchased a few weeks ago and decided to try my hand at Goddess/milk maid braids. My plan is to rock this style all week until it's time to go to the salon. Of course if my hair starts to feel thirsty I will cowash and restyle. Here are the final results. What do you guys think?

Last Wash Day With My Senegalese Twists!

I promise I'm like a kid in a candy store right now! I seriously have been missing my hair sooooooo much! The plan is to remove my Senegalese twists on Friday/Saturday. It totally depends on if the boo and I decide to go see The Best Man Holiday :) Either way I knew that my scalp needed one more good washing before I removed my senegalese twists. Because Jillian (as in Jillian Michaels) and I have been working out heavily together my new growth was super dry from sweating. The last thing I want when taking down a long term protective style is dry crunchy new growth...can we say breakage city?! So in order to combat this issue I used my normal braid washing routine, which you can check out here and here. Of course I reached for my beloved Shea Moisture Retention Shampoo to get the job done. What I love about this Shampoo is that it gets my hair squeaky clean while leaving my hair super soft and moisturized! Because I am removing the install this weekend and have a MEGA deep conditioning session planned I skipped conditioning my hair today.  Instead after drying my hair under my awesome Salon Hooded dryer (Shout out to EbonyCPrincess and her Protective Styling Challenge!) I settled for my Giovanni Direct Leave In. I moisturized my new growth thoroughly with my Giovanni and then sealed with a mixture of Castor & grapeseed oil. I can't even begin to describe how soft and moisturized my new growth is! As for the length of my hair, I will spritz it with my braid spray daily. The countdown to removing my braid install begins!

Bed, Bath, & Beyond's Health and Beauty Section!!!

So I am so excited to share what I discovered today in Bed Bath and Beyond today!!! Lately when reading some of my favorite beauty blogs I keep seeing people mention that they've spotted some of the latest and greatest makeup items in Bed Bath and Beyond. Who would've thought! Well I happened to be near one today and out of curiosity decided to check out the health and beauty section. Y'all I was blown away! Not only does Bed, Bath, and Beyond have a great makeup section, but they have a HUGE Hair product section! AND to make it EVEN better they also have their own generic brand called Harmon Face Value of some of the top product such as Paul Mitchell's 'The Detangler' and Matrix Biolage's 'Detangling Solution'. To top all of this off if you are signed up to receive Bed Bath and Beyond's coupons like I am we are talking about HUGE savings here! I also noticed that the prices seem to be better than Walmart or Target. Oh and did I mention that Bed Bath and Beyond accepts any competitors coupons! I was so mesmerized that I had to take a few pictures!

Hairfinity Craze?

I'm wondering if I'm the only person who's noticed the Hairfinity craze as of lately. I've known about Hairfinity for a few years, but I don't recall seeing the amount of Celebrity endorsements for the product that I see now! So far I've seen endorsements from Keshia Knight Pulliam (The Cosby's), Rasheeda (LHHATL), Porsha Stewart (RHOA), and Toya Carter (Tiny & Toya). I've read all about the product however, the $24 per bottle (for a 1 month supply) has always made me hesitate about ordering the product. Either way the product seems to do what is says as I've seen both celebrities as well as friends and associates praise this product! So I've said all of to ask y'alls opinion because I'm curious. Have you all tried this product (or would you be willing to try it) and if so how did you like it?

Totally Twisted (Part 3) | How To Wash Your Braids

So I'm super excited to be posting part 3 of my braid series! In this video I break down my wash day process for braids!  Time and time again women always tell me that they forgo washing their braids for fear of messing them up or because they believe that a dirty scalp promotes growth (no no)! I am here to show those who may be unsure of how to go about washing their braids that it can be done and is fairly simple! Enjoy :)

November Goals!

So I totally haven't done monthly goals in so long! It's not that I haven't had any personal goals, but out of sheer laziness I stopped documenting them. Well today that ends! Please note that because I am not removing my braid install until the middle of November there won't be many hair goals included! Here are my goals for the month of November!

1. Massage JBCO mixed with grapeseed oil into my scalp every 1-2 days. My scalp and new growth love this combination!

2.  Successfully remove my braid install.

3. Do an egg protein treatment

4. Complete my Jillian Michael's 30 day shred program. I'm on day 11!

5. Lose 5 lbs. I've been focused on healthier eating and would like to continue.

I'm feeling confident that I can achieve these goals and am super excited. I feel that by sharing my goals with you all it will help keep me on track :)
